Peptide reconstitution & sterile handling basics

Bacteriostatic vs sterile water

Bacteriostatic water contains a small percentage of benzyl alcohol that inhibits microbial growth, extending usable life after reconstitution. Sterile water has no preservative and is appropriate only for single-use scenarios.

Sterile technique

• Alcohol-swab the vial stopper before every draw
• Use a fresh sterile needle for each entry
• Inject diluent slowly down the vial wall — never spray onto the lyophilized cake
• Swirl gently; do not shake

Storage

Refrigerate reconstituted peptides at 2–8 °C. Keep lyophilized stock in the freezer for long-term storage. Honor the supplier's stability window — reading the COA pays off here.
